Four-Day Diwali Weekend for Indian Schools in UAE

Students at several Indian curriculum schools in the UAE will enjoy a four-day weekend for Diwali celebrations, with some schools extending the break to five days. Many institutions have opted to close on Thursday and Friday to observe Deepavali, one of South Asia’s largest festivals celebrated extensively by the Indian expat community.
This year’s festivities kick off on October 29 with Dhanteras, culminating in the main Diwali celebration on October 31. Schools like Amity School Dubai are organizing festive activities, including art and craft projects, to engage students in the spirit of the holiday. Principal Sangita Chima shared that they’ll be celebrating with hands-on activities, such as designing lamps and creating rangoli patterns.
While some schools embrace vibrant celebrations, others are adopting a more subdued approach due to ongoing regional tensions. Shining Star International, for example, will have low-key activities, including a Rangoli competition and Indian snacks, while remaining mindful of current events.
Overall, students are encouraged to wear traditional attire on October 30, fostering a festive atmosphere while maintaining respect for the regional situation.
