UAE Taxi Fares Among the World’s Lowest

Commuters in the UAE have another reason to smile — the country continues to offer some of the most affordable taxi fares globally, according to the latest report by Numbeo.

The study reveals that the average cost of a one-kilometre taxi ride in the UAE is Dh2.50, ranking the nation 76th worldwide. This places the UAE well below countries such as Switzerland (Dh17.26) — the most expensive — and even Japan (Dh11.94) and Germany (Dh10.58).

Despite its modern fleet, high-quality services, and well-regulated transport system, the UAE remains one of the most economical destinations for taxi travel.

On the other end, the Philippines tops the affordability chart, with the lowest global taxi fare at Dh0.92 per kilometre. Within Asia, the UAE holds the 21st position out of 32 countries, while Kuwait emerges as the most expensive in the region, averaging Dh11.97 per kilometre.

Even though some residents might feel that hailing a taxi or using Careem can add up, the UAE’s prices remain impressively low compared to global averages. This affordability is supported by stable fuel prices and government regulations ensuring fair and consistent fares.

As of November 2025, Super 98 petrol costs Dh2.63 per litre, slightly down from October’s Dh2.77, while Special 95 is Dh2.51 and diesel Dh2.67.

With Dubai taxi base fares starting at Dh12, passengers can easily estimate journey costs depending on distance, traffic time, and the per-kilometre rate. Whether you’re in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah, travelling by taxi remains an accessible, efficient, and affordable way to get around — far cheaper than in many major cities around the world.

So, the next time you step into a Dubai cab, remember — you’re not just saving time, you’re saving money too.
