Dubai Police Warn of AI-Generated Fake Documents
Dubai Police have issued a warning about a growing rise in scams involving AI-generated fake documents, which are being circulated via email and social media. These fake documents often appear highly professional and convincing, making them difficult to detect at first glance.
According to the Anti-Fraud Centre at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, scammers are using advanced AI tools to forge both official and unofficial documents, often as part of financial fraud schemes or attempts to evade the law. Authorities cautioned that fines for such offences can reach up to Dh750,000.
Despite their polished appearance, many forged documents contain warning signs such as incorrect or inconsistent information, wording that does not match approved official templates, and fake signatures or stamps. As part of the #BewareofFraud campaign, Dubai Police urged individuals and organisations not to trust documents solely based on appearance.
Police recommend verifying the source of any document, checking digital file details such as creation or modification dates, and confirming official reference numbers through trusted channels. They stressed that forging documents using AI is a criminal offence punishable under UAE law.
Residents are encouraged to report suspected fraud immediately through the Dubai Police smart app, by calling 901, or via the eCrime platform for online-related offences.
