UAE Introduces Blue Visa: A 10-Year Residency for Sustainability Leaders

The United Arab Emirates has launched the first phase of the Blue Visa system, a 10-year residence visa dedicated to individuals contributing to environmental sustainability. Announced during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai (February 11–13), the initiative is led by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP).

Eligibility and First Recipients

In the initial phase, 20 sustainability pioneers, including innovators and global environmental leaders, will be granted the Blue Visa. Eligible individuals include:

  • Members of international sustainability organizations and corporations
  • Associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

  • Distinguished activists and researchers in sustainability

Applicants can apply directly through ICP’s online platform or be nominated by UAE authorities.

Expanding the UAE’s Residency Programmes

The Blue Visa builds on the UAE’s existing long-term residency options, such as the Golden Visa (for investors, entrepreneurs, and talented individuals) and the Green Visa (for skilled professionals and freelancers). This initiative is part of the UAE’s broader commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.
