Air India Express, the low-cost subsidiary of Air India, has announced an increase in free check-in baggage allowances on international routes to the Middle East and Singapore. This enhancement is part of the airline’s commitment to offering more value to its passengers.
Travelers can now enjoy a 30kg check-in baggage allowance, along with 7kg cabin baggage. Parents traveling with infants receive a total baggage allowance of up to 47kg, while Xpress Biz (the airline’s business class) passengers now benefit from an increase in check-in baggage allowance from 30kg to 40kg.
Expanding Operations
Air India Express operates 450 weekly flights between India and the Middle East, connecting 19 cities in India with 13 destinations in the region. It also operates 26 weekly flights linking Singapore to South Indian cities such as Chennai, Madurai, and Tiruchirappalli.
Special Offers for Passengers
Xpress Lite
Passengers who prefer traveling without check-in baggage can opt for Xpress Lite, which features lower fares and includes a complimentary additional +3kg cabin baggage allowance. Travelers needing check-in baggage later can pre-book it at discounted rates of 15kg for domestic flights and 20kg for international flights.
Xpress Biz
Business Class travelers can enjoy 40kg check-in baggage allowance, priority check-in, boarding, and baggage services, along with recliner seats offering up to 58 inches of pitch. Complimentary “Gourmair” hot meals are also provided.
Additional Cabin Baggage Options
- Passengers are allowed up to 7kg of cabin baggage, consisting of up to two pieces with combined dimensions not exceeding 56cm x 36cm x 23cm.
- Small bags like laptop bags, handbags, or backpacks (40cm x 30cm x 10cm) can also be carried, provided they fit under the seat in front.
For passengers needing more cabin space, the airline offers Xtra Carry-On services, allowing them to increase their cabin baggage allowance by 3kg to 5kg.
Traveling with Infants
Families traveling with infants receive an additional 10kg check-in baggage allowance, making the total allowance 47kg, including cabin baggage.
Musical Instruments and Oversized Items
Travelers can carry small musical instruments as cabin baggage at no additional cost if the instrument fits within the dimensions of 56cm x 36cm x 23cm. Larger instruments can be checked in for an extra fee or carried on a purchased additional seat (weight limit: 75kg).
Network Growth and Fleet Expansion
Air India Express now operates over 400 daily flights, marking a 30% increase in its schedule compared to last year. The airline serves more than 50 destinations, including new routes to Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand. It has also increased flights to Middle Eastern destinations like Abu Dhabi, Dammam, Muscat, and Ras al-Khaimah.
With a current fleet of 90 aircraft (61 Boeing 737s and 29 Airbus A320s), the airline plans to expand its fleet to 100 aircraft by the end of this financial year.
This latest initiative underscores Air India Express’ focus on enhancing customer experience and making air travel more convenient for its growing passenger base.
