AR Rahman Unveils ‘Jamal Al Etihad’ for UAE National Day 2025

Indian music legend AR Rahman has created a special musical tribute for UAE National Day 2025 titled “Jamal Al Etihad.” The song will be officially unveiled on November 29 at 9.30pm at the Layali Al Wathba Theatre during the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Abu Dhabi.

Unlike his usual focus on technique and emotion, Rahman describes this new composition as a “therapy of smile” — a joyful, simple tribute to the UAE and the values that unite its people. Speaking to Khaleej Times, he shared that the song’s idea originated in 2023 when Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, approached him to create a musical gift for the nation. Although the track began two years ago, global events led to its delayed release.

Jamal Al Etihad is also unique for Rahman as it is an English-language song. He explained that the intention was to create a global piece representing the diverse people who define the UAE — from workers and entrepreneurs to expats and royalty. “Everyone is working towards something big for the UAE, and the pace at which this nation moves is very inspiring,” he said.

Rahman experimented with several versions before finalising the final track. He describes the song as a “UAE-born creation,” designed to evoke a feel-good vibe whether enjoyed in a car, in the desert, or anywhere one feels connected.

Composing for a nation, he noted, carries a different emotional purpose. “This is for hope,” Rahman said. “If the UAE were a melody, it would be happiness.”

The unveiling on November 29 will be accompanied by a special performance presented by Burjeel Holdings. Doors open at 7pm for festival ticket holders, and a spectacular three-minute firework display at 10pm will elevate the celebrations.

As the UAE approaches its 54th National Day, Jamal Al Etihad stands as a musical symbol of unity, generosity, and the joyful spirit that defines the nation.
