Dubai’s iconic Dubai Fountain at The Dubai Mall will have its final performance on April 19 before undergoing a five-month renovation. Master developer Emaar has announced that enhancement works will begin in May, with the revamped fountain set to reopen in October.
The restoration project aims to introduce cutting-edge technology, enhanced choreography, and an upgraded sound and lighting system to offer a more immersive experience.
Mohamed Alabbar, Founder of Emaar, stated, “The Dubai Fountain reflects Dubai’s bold vision and global appeal. This restoration reinforces our commitment to maintaining its legacy as a symbol of creativity and excellence. We look forward to unveiling its renewed splendor.”
Despite the temporary closure, attractions in Downtown Dubai will remain open to residents and visitors. The Dubai Fountain, designed by Wet Design—the team behind the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas—was created by Emaar in 2005 and opened in 2009.
The fountain is one of Dubai’s most popular tourist attractions, contributing to the city’s record-breaking tourism figures. In 2024, Dubai welcomed 18.72 million international visitors, marking a 9% increase from 2023. The highest growth came from North East and South East Asia (+24%), followed by Africa (+20%) and CIS & Eastern Europe (+16%). Western Europe remained the top visitor source, growing by 14%.
Dubai’s hospitality sector has also expanded to accommodate this surge, with 154,016 hotel rooms across 832 properties by the end of 2024. The launch of new luxury hotels, including One&Only One Za’abeel, SIRO One Za’abeel, and The Lana Dorchester Collection, further strengthened the city’s tourism appeal.
While the Dubai Fountain undergoes its transformation, visitors can continue to explore Downtown Dubai’s world-class attractions, anticipating the fountain’s grand return in October.
