Indian expat engineer dies hours after bidding farewell to family in UAE

Tragedy struck when Indian engineer Hariraj Sudevan, 37, passed away from a heart attack just hours after dropping off his wife and son at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Hariraj, an IIT Madras postgraduate, had been living and working in the UAE for 12 years and was employed as a senior offshore construction engineer in Abu Dhabi.

According to his father-in-law, Ashokan K.P., Hariraj’s wife Dr. Anu Ashok and their son Ishaan Dev Hari had visited him for ten days before returning to Kerala on Sunday. He had planned to join them later this month for his son’s 10th birthday on October 27.

Hariraj had spent the evening with his close friend Digin Thomas, celebrating Digin’s daughter’s birthday, before heading home. Around 11:40 p.m., he experienced chest discomfort and breathing difficulty. Despite immediate medical attention and CPR, doctors could not save him.

Known for his kindness and academic brilliance, Hariraj completed his B.Tech from CUSAT and M.Tech from IIT Madras. Friends and colleagues remembered him as a talented professional and a humble, cheerful person. His funeral was held in his hometown, Alappuzha, on Tuesday, where hundreds came to pay their respects.
