India, UAE Make Key Progress on Visa Liberalisation and Consular Cooperation

India and the United Arab Emirates have made notable progress in liberalising visa policies and strengthening consular cooperation, following a meeting of the India-UAE Joint Committee on Consular Affairs (JCCA) held in Abu Dhabi recently.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), both sides advanced discussions in four key areas: easing visa rules, improving information exchange and consular access, and expediting cooperation on mutual legal assistance and extradition cases.

The talks were held in an atmosphere of “traditional warmth and cooperation,” reflecting the strong and historic Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations. India also expressed appreciation for the UAE leadership’s continued support for the welfare of the large Indian community residing in the Emirates—considered a vital bridge in deepening bilateral ties.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety, dignity and well-being of their citizens living in each other’s territories.

Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UAE in 2015, India–UAE relations have seen significant growth. The partnership reached new heights after the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2022, driving major gains in trade and people-to-people engagement.
