Nine Indian Workers die in Bus accident at Khor Fakkan
India’s consulate in Dubai has pledged assistance to the families of nine Indian nationals killed in a bus crash in Sharjah’s Khor Fakkan on Sunday night. Three others remain critically injured.
The accident occurred when a bus carrying 83 workers from a construction company in Ajman overturned near a roundabout due to brake failure. The workers were returning after collecting free supplies like rice and lentils from their company’s head office and spending their day off sightseeing.
“All nine deceased are Indian nationals, and three remain seriously injured,” said S Madani, chairman of Khor Fakkan’s Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre, after visiting the injured in hospitals.
Victims with head and limb injuries are being treated at multiple hospitals in Khor Fakkan and Fujairah. Authorities are expediting autopsies and embalming to repatriate the deceased to their families in India at the earliest.
“The Consulate is in touch with the families of the deceased and coordinating with local authorities to provide all possible assistance,” stated a consulate spokesperson. Officials have also visited the injured in hospitals and pledged continued support.
Sharjah Police’s preliminary investigation attributed the crash to brake failure, which caused the driver to lose control near a city entrance. Authorities have urged companies to maintain their vehicles regularly, adhere to speed limits, and exercise caution on winding roads.
