Russia’s E-Visa Opens Doors for UAE Expats

Moscow City Tourism officials are optimistic that Russia’s expanded e-visa system, covering 60 nationalities, will attract more UAE-based expatriates.

While Emirati citizens already enjoy visa-free entry to Russia for up to 90 days, expatriates from India, China, Austria, Japan, and several European nations can now apply for an e-visa online, receiving approval within four to five working days. The visa duration has also been extended from 16 to 30 days.

Bulat Nurmukhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee, emphasized Russia’s commitment to simplifying travel, adding that UAE residents could benefit significantly from the streamlined process. However, discussions on extending visa-free travel to expatriates remain a federal decision.

Despite geopolitical tensions, UAE tourism to Moscow has grown substantially, with over 40,000 visitors recorded in the first nine months of 2024—up from just 5,000 in 2022. With more than 200 weekly flights connecting the UAE and Moscow, travel remains convenient.

To further enhance the experience for Middle Eastern visitors, Moscow has introduced a Muslim-friendly guide, featuring hotels, restaurants, and attractions catering to their preferences. Officials remain confident that tourism will continue fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties between the two regions.
