India e-OCI Card

India Launches e-OCI Card for Overseas Citizens

The India e-OCI Card has been officially launched by the Government of India, making it easier for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders to carry and access their OCI credentials digitally. The new electronic version allows users to store their OCI card securely on a smartphone and present it during international travel, reducing paperwork while improving convenience and security.

The launch is part of India’s broader digital governance initiative to modernise citizen services and simplify travel for more than five million OCI cardholders worldwide.

What is the India e-OCI Card?

The India e-OCI Card is a digital version of the existing Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. Instead of carrying the physical OCI booklet at all times, eligible cardholders can now generate and store a secure electronic version on their mobile device.

The digital card can be presented to immigration officials and airlines whenever required during travel. It offers quicker identity verification while keeping all essential OCI details easily accessible.

Who Can Download the India e-OCI Card?

The facility is available to all existing OCI cardholders.

If you already have a valid OCI card, you can generate and download your digital e-OCI card through the official OCI Services Portal.

Benefits of the India e-OCI Card

The new digital OCI card offers several advantages, including:

  • Easy access on your smartphone
  • Faster verification at immigration checkpoints
  • Reduced need to carry the physical OCI booklet
  • Lower risk of loss or damage to documents
  • Improved travel convenience
  • Secure digital identity management

Is the Physical OCI Card Still Valid?

Yes. The physical OCI booklet continues to remain fully valid.

The e-OCI card is an additional digital facility and does not replace the existing physical OCI document. Cardholders can continue using either version during travel.

Separate permits are also required to visit restricted, protected and prohibited areas within India.

Why the India e-OCI Card Matters

The launch of the India e-OCI Card marks another important step in India’s digital transformation journey. By offering a secure digital version of the OCI card, the government aims to improve identity verification, reduce paperwork, and make international travel more convenient for millions of Overseas Citizen of India cardholders.

With both physical and digital versions remaining valid, OCI holders now have greater flexibility and easier access to their travel credentials whenever they need them.
